Ek Tara is a Kolkata-based grassroots organisation providing quality education and holistic development opportunities to over 5,000 children, most of whom are first-generation school-goers, helping them build pathways toward lifelong learning and economic mobility.
Ek Tara was founded to break cycles of poverty through education. We work in underserved urban communities and government schools, addressing barriers through structured learning, community engagement, and comprehensive support systems.
Its programmes include the Learning Centre, Community Centre, Government School Partnerships, and the Music & Arts School, collectively creating an integrated ecosystem for child and community development.
Ek Tara, a Kolkata-based grassroots organisation is committed to creating high-quality educational and development opportunities for children, especially girls from low-income, marginalised urban slum communities. Sureka Group partners with Ek Tara to create meaningful pathways for girls from underserved communities to pursue their aspirations and build brighter futures.
A key focus of this partnership is the Anantara Scholarship Programme, which currently supports a cohort of 40 deserving students who are aiming high and working towards their educational and life goals. Anantara goes beyond academic support, nurturing the girls’ wellbeing, confidence, skills and aspirations while providing continued guidance for their overall development.
The programme invites fresh applications every year, welcoming new students into the cohort and expanding opportunities for girls to learn, grow and shape their futures. Through its support for Anantara and Ek Tara’s broader Education Programme, Sureka Group is contributing to a more sustained and holistic approach to empowering young girls and enabling them to become changemakers in their communities.
Sureka Group is actively involved in activities of Udayan Care, a foundation that seeks to uplift the underprivileged sections of society. Through Sureka Group’s regular and substantial financial help, Udayan Shalini Fellowship (USF) aids underprivileged girls after high school to attain college degrees or vocational training with financial help and mentoring
Sureka Group extends continuous financial aid to the Indian Cancer Society to assist them organise cancer awareness programs and camps.
Sureka Group has been closely supporting Jagriti, an NGO led by women, who help the poor by helping victims of calamities, organise eye camps and health checkups in different parts of Amtala and help the poor by providing education camps.
